Open to OWS members, this competitive juried exhibition is a showcase for the talent, diversity and energy of artists working in water soluble mediums: watercolor, acrylic, casein, gouache and egg tempera. Awards of cash and materials totaling thousands of dollars makes this one of the premier art exhibits in the State of Ohio. This year's exhibition will be displayed at the Middletown Arts Center in Middletown, Ohio from September 21 through October 17, 2024.
A Travel Exhibition of 32 of the paintings, including alll of the award winners, will be on display at venues in Sidney, Van Wert, Findlay and Piqua, Ohio after the initial showing in Middletown.
I would like to thank the Ohio Watercolor Society for inviting me to jury their 47th Annual Juried Exhibition in 2024. It is always a privilege and an honor to be asked to pick from so many examples of art for this year’s show.
When I am jurying for any show I am looking for those that capture your attention and make you want to keep viewing it over and over. These are the ones that have that something extra that compels one to be visually entertained and intrigued. Perhaps it was its creative design, strong color combinations or maybe compelling visual content, whatever it is, it worked!
Judging for awards, to me is an awesome task and at the same time, nerve wracking. There are always so many that deserve an award and never enough to hand out. To see the original art in person is always such a thrilling, awe-inspiring experience until you have to decide which ones to give awards to! Such a variety of techniques, styles and color application make for a daunting task.
To those of you selected this year, congratulations! To those of you not selected, please keep working at your art and enter again next year. Hard work and the inspiration to become a better artist will in the end prove fruitful. Everyone who entered this year’s show should be honored and applauded for their efforts.
